City Garden – Saint Louis Missouri

Creepy Statue City Garden at night…..
I think that creepy looking statue is looking at me…..
“Holy cow!…………….That is one creepy statue!” There is one statue in particular in the City Garden that catches your eye from the moment you enter the park. It is a tall pearl colored statue with no eyeballs, but still has the cut out eye sockets. This statue has the perfect back drop with skyscrapers looming overhead in the distance. As you approach the statue you begin to realize there are no eyeballs in this pillowy structure. This along with the amber overcast lighting give the statue an eerie vibe at night. I had to capture this statue with the corridor looking back drop. With its head slightly canted downwards, it gives a sense of it creeping up on you if you look away. During the day the statue appears as a friendly looking ghost. You would never give the statue a second look during the daytime. There are a few other gems in the park that you can capture. There is a bronze hollowed bronze head that provides a macabre presence to the park at night. During the day people stop and take pictures in and around the head.
Well worth the visit
The City Garden in downtown Saint Louis Mo is one of those places you pass without giving a second thought to on your busy commute to work. It is one of the coolest places during the daytime to enjoy a break from the hustle in the city. At night it transforms into a dark and dimly lit photographer’s playground. Most of the art pieces on display there have an amber or white light illuminating the sculpture. These lights are not overpowering in the terms of lighting up the entire park but, the lights provide enough to give photos a sense of drama to them. I was able to capture quite a few wonderful shots with a 35mm Mieke F1.7 lens. This is a great spot for senior pictures for high school or group photos. During the summertime they have a small wading pool that is active. You can get plenty of water shots in an urban setting. Don’t miss out on a chance to capture something amazing.
